Job Title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Organic Chemistry / Biochemistry

Appointment Type: Full-Time Temporary

Position Dates: August 1, 2024 to July 31, 2026

Hours per week / FTE: 35

About the Position: The Aquaculture Centre of Excellence, led by Senior Scientist Dr. Nick Savidov, conducts research to reduce the environmental footprint of food production and promote sustainable practices in food systems.

Current Projects include:

  • Mass balance studies on nutrient distribution in aquaponics with fish diets supplemented by plant protein meal.
  • Evaluation of supplemental light types on vine crop production in controlled environment agriculture.

Project: Using mass balance to identify nutrient distribution in aquaponics with plant-based protein supplemented fish diets.

Job Description: The postdoctoral researcher will lead mass balance studies on plant-based protein supplementation in fish diets within aquaponics systems. Responsibilities include experimental design, utilizing automated micro-aquaponics systems, proficiency with analytical equipment (ICP, LCMS, HPLC, Photometric Analyzers), data collection, analysis, and presentation. The role involves independent and team work under supervision, project management, reporting, publication, and supervising students and junior staff. Regular meetings with Dr. Nick Savidov will guide research activities.

Position Details:

  • Experiment planning, data analysis, troubleshooting, and future planning: 70%
  • Manuscript preparation, presentations: 20%
  • Training: 5%

Required Qualifications: PhD (completed or near completion) in biochemistry, chemistry, plant biology, or microbiology.
