Dalhousie University seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow for the 2SLGBTQ+ Poverty in Canada Project. The role involves supervising research assistants, engaging in quantitative research, and contributing to community-based solutions for addressing poverty in 2SLGBTQ+ communities. This impactful position offers an opportunity to be part of a national study aimed at improving policy and service provision for marginalized populations.
The 2SLGBTQ+ Poverty in Canada Project is seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral Fellow position in this national study, already in progress. The position is funded through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)’s Partnership Grant. This study seeks to determine how poverty is impacting 2SLGBTQ+ people and to what extent. The lack of a national scale study of poverty and income inadequacy among 2SLGBTQ+ people hinders the development of effective policy measures, non-profit service provision, and scholarship. Our cross-disciplinary team, comprised of scholars and community partners is the first to examine the prevalence of poverty in 2SLGBTQ+ communities, and the impacts of this poverty on their social wellbeing, health, and socioeconomic empowerment. In this study, we are using methods such as focus groups, interviews, and a large-scale national survey. We aim to rectify 2SLGBTQ+ invisibility in mainstream anti-poverty work by developing a cross-sectoral community-based action plan to reduce 2SLGBTQ+ poverty in Canada.
