The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world‑renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI‑MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).
Department / Research Program: Cancer Research Program
The Kheiri Laboratory, led by Dr. Sina Kheiri (Jarislowsky Endowed Research Chair in Translational Oncology, Department of Surgery, McGill University), is part of the Thoracic Surgery and Upper Gastrointestinal Cancer Research Laboratories (http://thoracicsurgery.lab.mcgill.ca) at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC). We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow for a joint position with Dr. Lorenzo Ferri (Chair, Department of Surgery) to develop a vascularized organ‑on‑a‑chip model of gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma, investigating tumor–vasculature interactions in disease progression and therapeutic response.
The project combines microfluidic tissue engineering and vascular biology to build a human‑relevant model that recapitulates the tumor microenvironment, enabling the study of angiogenesis, drug transport, and treatment response. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team and will be involved in several areas: (1) design, fabrication and optimization of microfluidic vascularized tumor‑on‑a‑chip platforms modeling gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma; (2) establishment and characterization of perfusable tumor–vasculature co‑cultures that reproduce key features of the tumor microenvironment; (3) development and validation of drug screening assays, including readouts of drug transport and treatment response; (4) analysis and dissemination of findings through publications and presentations.
