Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

Dr. Tony Reiman’s laboratory at Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick ( DMNB ) on the University of New Brunswick ( UNB ) Saint John campus is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow to join our dynamic team. Dr. Reiman’s laboratory conducts basic and applied clinical cancer research focusing on multiple myeloma, lymphoma, and lung cancer. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to perform cancer research in a multidisciplinary environment using cutting edge molecular and cellular technique to advance our understanding of cancer biology and contribute to the development of novel therapeutic approaches.

Key responsibilities·

  • To engage in active laboratory and clinical research focusing on molecular cancer pathogenesis, including leading projects on the molecular mechanisms mediating hematological malignancy progression, discovery of cancer biomarkers, and assessment of novel preclinical therapeutics
  • Analyze biospecimens and interpret clinical data from ongoing research projects
  • Develop and implement new research methodologies and techniques, and maintain standard operating procedures
  • Actively engage in presenting their research findings at scientific conferences, and publish scientific manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals·
  • Actively apply for research funding at the local, provincial, and national levels
  • Collaborate with industry/academia partners and team members, including clinical and laboratory researchers, graduate students, undergraduates, and medical students to apply research and develop new techniques, products, or practices
  • Mentor and supervise graduate and undergraduate students in the laboratory
  • Assist in the management of laboratory resources and maintenance of research protocols

Qualifications/Requirements Of Position

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Biological Sciences or a related field, with 0-5 years’ experience as a postdoctoral fellow in molecular biology or clinical research in an academic setting
  • Strong track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentations to scientific audiences·
  • Strong background in cancer research and laboratory techniques, such as cell culture, flow cytometry, histology, and DNA , RNA , and protein analysis
  • Experience with biospecimen analysis and clinical data interpretation·
  • Ability to independently design and conduct experiments and their own research program
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work independently and think critically
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Additional optional desired skills:

  • Experience with translational cancer research and clinical trials
  • Proficiency in bioinformatics and statistical analysis of large datasets
  • Knowledge of current trends and advancements in cancer biology
  • Familiarity with Canadian research ethics guidelines and procedures

Given the interdisciplinary nature of our research, candidates with expertise in a subset of these areas but with a strong willingness to learn and expand their skill set are encouraged to apply

Salary Range/Pay Rate $50,000 gross per annum
