This is an opportunity for a summer student to join the outpatient dietitian team at the Alberta Children’s Hospital for an 8-10 week position. This is a research position where the student will be responsible for interacting with patients and gathering data. The study is trying to validate a malnutrition screening tool for use with patients in the ambulatory neurosciences clinics at ACH and determine the current prevalence of malnutrition among those patients. Note: Start & end Date are flexible.
As a research summer student, you will interact with patients attending booked clinic appointments. You will explain the research project to the potential participants and obtain consent if they are interested in participating. You may assist in completion of the two screening tools that are required as part of the study. You will also conduct nutrition focused physical exams and complete a subjective global nutrition assessment (SGNA) on the participants. At times, you may need to use the Language Line to explain the project to families who do not speak English as a first language.
Working towards or completed a Bachelor of Science with a major in Foods and Nutrition.
As Required.
Previous research experience, especially in pediatrics. Demonstrated skill set in use of business-related information technology. Experience with or knowledge of nutrition-focused physical exams and Subjective Global Nutrition Assessment.
