Job summary

A First Nation organization is seeking a Support Navigator to assist youth and young adults in accessing vital resources and support for their wellbeing. This permanent role requires a focus on advocacy, cultural sensitivity, and knowledge of relevant social services. Ideal candidates will have social work qualifications and experience in case management to effectively guide youth through challenges related to housing, mental health, and identity.

Qualifications

  • One-year direct case management experience with children, youth, or young adults.
  • Knowledge of Mushkegowuk Culture and its impacts.
  • Ability to speak Cree is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support and resources for youth regarding housing, relationships, and health.

Job description

The Support Navigators are responsible for walking alongside youth and young people to ensure they have equitable care and access to:

  • Financial assistance
  • Stable and safe housing
  • Support in building meaningful and healthy relationships
  • Access to youth and young people's identity, culture, and community
  • Health and advocacy
  • Guidance on navigating a healthy journey into adulthood

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Social Work Diploma, Bachelor of Social Work Degree, or relevant field diploma/degree, or comparable education and experience
  • Minimum of one-year direct case management experience with children, youth, or young adults
  • Clear criminal reference check (CPIC), Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Welfare Checks required
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Relevant social work certificates
  • Knowledge of Mushkegowuk Culture, History, and the impacts of Intergenerational trauma
  • Ability to work in crisis situations and de-escalate conflicts
  • Excellent advocacy and communication skills
  • Familiarity with Moose Cree First Nation’s Child and Family Well-being Law
  • Knowledge of Indigenous Services Canada (ISC), Canadian Human Rights Tribunal (CHRT), and provincial family legislation
  • Willingness to travel unexpectedly and work outside regular hours
  • Knowledge of resources for youth facing addictions, mental health, education, and housing challenges
  • Ability to speak Cree is an asset

Duration: Permanent with 3-month probation
