Job description

IMPORTANT WORK EXPECTATIONS

This is a demanding, primarily in-office role in our midtown Toronto office. Employees are expected to be in the office four to five days per week, and the position may require work outside normal business hours. Please apply only if you are comfortable with these expectations.

ABOUT GINSLER WEALTH

Ginsler Wealth is an independent, Toronto-based wealth management firm providing holistic wealth planning and discretionary portfolio management to high-net-worth individuals and families.

We do not manufacture or sell proprietary investment products. Our independence allows us to search broadly for the strategies, managers and solutions we believe are most appropriate for each client.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting directly to the Chief Investment Officer, the successful candidate will own Ginsler Wealth’s external investment manager and product research, due diligence, selection and monitoring process. The role will also contribute to the firm’s multi-asset portfolio models across different client risk levels. This is a central investment-team position offering substantial autonomy, direct access to decision-makers and exposure to traditional and alternative asset classes. The successful candidate may be appointed as Portfolio Manager or Investment Associate, depending on experience and registration status. Strong AI proficiency is required, with an expectation that AI will be incorporated throughout the role’s research and operational processes.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Own the process. Maintain and improve the firm’s research framework, diligence calendar, approved list, watchlist and decision records.

  • Source and screen. Identify compelling managers and strategies across public, private and alternative markets.

  • Lead investment due diligence. Assess each manager’s organization, people, incentives, process, portfolio construction, performance, risk, liquidity, capacity and fit.

  • Lead operational due diligence. Evaluate governance, compliance, controls, service providers, cybersecurity, business continuity, conflicts, fees, terms and structural risks.

  • Conduct primary research. Manage DDQs, data rooms, manager meetings and reference calls while documenting findings and unresolved risks.

  • Recommend decisions. Present clear investment recommendations addressing the thesis, portfolio role, risks, alternatives and implementation considerations.

  • Support implementation. Coordinate onboarding and subscriptions with managers, custodians, advisers, compliance and internal operations.

  • Monitor continuously. Track performance, risk, liquidity, organizational developments and style drift, recommending maintain, watchlist, resize or terminate decisions.

  • Cover private opportunities. Evaluate select direct investments and co-investments for commercial, financial, structural and portfolio fit.

  • Build relationships and intelligence. Maintain a strong industry network and investment pipeline without compromising independent judgment.

  • Maintain portfolio models. Help evolve strategic models across different client objectives, risk levels, liquidity needs and time horizons.

  • Support asset allocation. Contribute research, capital-market assumptions and risk-return analysis to strategic and tactical decisions.

  • Translate research into portfolios. Recommend the role, size and funding source of approved strategies while identifying concentration and liquidity risks.

  • Measure outcomes. Monitor performance, attribution, exposures and drawdowns, supported by scenario and stress analysis.

  • Implement and support. Prepare model changes, rebalancing and transition plans while supporting client portfolio reviews.

Investment Governance, Communication & Firm Contribution

  • Strengthen governance. Prepare Investment Committee materials and maintain complete, current and decision-useful research records.

  • Meet regulatory and ethical standards. Support KYP, KYC, suitability, conflict-of-interest and fair-allocation obligations while protecting confidentiality.

  • Communicate clearly. Translate complex investment matters into concise recommendations, reports, presentations and commentary.

  • Improve and contribute. Enhance research tools and processes while supporting portfolio implementation, special projects and broader team priorities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • CFA charter required. Candidates must be CFA charterholders in good standing.

  • Registration readiness required. Candidates must be currently registered, or eligible to apply for registration in Ontario, as an Advising Representative or Associate Advising Representative under NI 31-103.

  • Relevant experience. At least five years of progressively responsible investment research, manager research, asset-allocation, portfolio-construction or discretionary-management experience is preferred.

  • Manager-research track record. Demonstrated experience conducting full-cycle due diligence and ongoing monitoring of external managers and investment products.

  • Education. An undergraduate degree in finance, economics, business, mathematics or a related discipline is required; graduate education is an asset.

  • Canadian context. Familiarity with Canadian securities regulation and the structures and needs common to high-net-worth client portfolios is required.

  • Technology and data. Advanced proficiency with AI tools, Excel and PowerPoint is required; experience with portfolio-management and research platforms is an asset.

  • Eligibility to work. Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

ADDITIONAL ASSETS
