Job summary

BMO Financial Group is seeking a detail-oriented Portfolio Assistant to support Investment Counsellors within BPIC in delivering exceptional client service to affluent clients. You will assist with relationship management, prepare investment materials, coordinate client servicing activities, and oversee discretionary account administration.

The role emphasizes investment knowledge, data analysis, and collaborative teamwork, with opportunities to contribute to client meetings and annual reviews.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in wealth management or financial services.
  • Post-secondary education in Finance, Business, Economics, Commerce.
  • Demonstrated interest in investments and wealth management.
  • Internship or work experience in client services is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Identify gaps and insights by monitoring sales/service targets.
  • Grow business via internal referrals and external marketing initiatives.
  • Coordinate marketing materials for client conversations and proposals.
  • Prepare investment and portfolio materials for client meetings.
  • Resolve client issues promptly and escalate when needed.
  • Maintain client meeting schedules and office coverage to ensure responsiveness.

As a Portfolio Assistant supporting Investment Counsellors within BMO Private Investment Counsel (BPIC), you will play a key role in delivering an exceptional client experience for affluent and high-net-worth clients. Acting as a trusted partner to the Investment Counsellor team, you will help manage client relationships, prepare investment and portfolio-related materials, coordinate client servicing activities, and ensure the efficient administration of discretionary investment accounts. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented wealth management professional with a passion for investments, client service, and relationship management.

  • Identifies gaps, issues and best practices through monitoring of sales and service performance targets against plans.
  • Contribute to the team’s business objectives by building and maintaining client relationships through client acquisition both from internal referrals (within existing book of business) and external sources (through marketing initiatives).
  • Expands the business growth potential of the team through telemarketing and outbound calls.
  • Coordinates marketing activities and sales material to support client / prospect conversations.
  • Provides knowledge detailed information about products and services offered.
  • Determines appropriate communication/service regarding all aspects of investing.
  • Independently resolves client complaints in a timely and effective manner; escalates as required.
  • Keeps current with investment services marketplace, products, and service offerings and the legal and regulatory environment for the industry.
  • Coordinates and executes specific activities for the implementation of strategic initiatives; includes tracking metrics and milestones.
  • Analyzes data and information to provide insights and recommendations.
  • Gathers and formats data into regular and ad-hoc reports, and dashboards.
  • Provides specialized support related to investment client services issue including preparing information for client meetings, annual reviews, etc.
  • Ensures client needs are met or exceeded; manages requests in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Maintain the schedule / calendar to coordinate customer meetings and office coverage.
  • Meets high-quality service standards to maximize relationship retention and growth.
  • Develops rapport and instills confidence with the client to develop credibility and earn their trust.
  • Organizes work information to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Take measured risks while protecting the bank by applying our Risk Management Framework in the execution of your role, in line with our Risk Culture and within our approved Risk Appetite, making sound and risk informed decisions that align to business strategy, protect assets, and adhere to applicable policy documents (Frameworks, Policies, Standards, Procedures and Supporting documents), laws and regulations.
Qualifications:
  • Preferably 3+ years of experience in wealth management, financial services, banking, investments, or a client-facing professional environment.

  • Post-secondary education in Finance, Business, Economics, Commerce, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated interest in investments, financial markets, wealth management, or portfolio management.

  • Previous internship, co-op, or work experience supporting clients, advisors, investment professionals, or financial services teams is considered an asset.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Comfortable building relationships and communicating professionally with clients, colleagues, and business partners.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and client service skills with a willingness to learn and develop within a wealth management environment.

  • Completion of the Canadian Securities Course (CSC), Canadian Investment Regulatory Exam (CIRE), or current enrollment in the CFA Program is considered an asset

Salary:

$40,500.00 - $80,000.00

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
