About Our Opportunity

As the Portfolio Analyst, you will be responsible to initiate, develop, and conduct detailed analysis of the student assistance portfolio including conducting investigative analysis and reporting activities of Resolve, SNS, other service providers and partners to support informed decision making.

You will conduct technical accounting work including providing advice on financial planning as it relates to the performance of general accounting functions, financial and budgetary analysis, year-end processing, maintenance and review of the departmental accounting system.

As the Portfolio Analyst you will report to the Manager, Portfolio Programs and Accountability, and work collaboratively with the Director.

Primary Accountabilities

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting reviews, reconciliations, analysis, audits, reports, and recommendations on the various components of programs under the Nova Scotia Student Loan Program.
  • Advising and recommending on financial systems and improvements to accounting systems and procedures to achieve greater efficiency and effectiveness in the use of public resources.
Qualifications and Experience

This may be the right opportunity for you if you have completed three years of post-secondary professional accounting with five years of related experience; an equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.

You demonstrate strong research, analytical, organizational and time management skills along with the ability to prioritize tasks and issues to meet deadlines. You have extensive experience in data evaluation and interpretation and the use of research and evaluation methods with a proven ability to design and produce financial reports.

You possess a high degree of initiative and independent judgement when formulating decisions. You have exceptional computer skills in the areas of data organization, assessment, analysis, and spreadsheets; you are proficient in the use of Data Warehouse applications and possess advanced Excel capabilities.

While not required, it is considered an asset if you have applied knowledge of the Corporate Financial Management System (SAP) and CICA Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Additional Information

This is a term full-time position based in Halifax with a projected end date of July 29, 2026. Note the status of the vacancy (term/temp) is dependent on the start date of the candidate and the overall duration of the position in accordance with the collective agreement.

Pay Grade: TE 22

Salary Range: $2,189.32- $2,574.66Bi-Weekly
