We are hiring a Porter in Retail at Gray Monk Winery.
We are getting ready to welcome guests for wine tastings at the winery and hiring a team for the summer who can start training in May. The Porter is responsible for all set up and tear-down activities for the hospitality teams to ensure a well-prepared venue that serves to create memorable guest experiences. This role also supports the team in all property activities including guest relations, food running, and garbage disposal.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES*
Ensures all guest venues are set up in accordance with tour/experience specific standards and completes safe and efficient tear down when tours/experiences are completed.
Focused effort to contribute to wine and wine club sales by demonstrating service excellence to guests and internal stakeholders via a solid understanding of:
daily / group function sheets & open table schedule
private bookings.
Understands and adheres to retail inventory control procedures (receiving, ordering, promotions, stocking); participates as requested, in monthly retail inventory process.
Follows work safe procedures & practices; reports any unsafe working conditions/hazards to assigned Manager on Duty.
Responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and safety of the store product/tour route/experience locations at all times.
Incumbents for this role must be a minimum of 16 years of age and in possession of a valid “Serving it Right” certification. If under the age of 19, incumbent must work under adult supervision and is prohibited from opening wine/liquor bottles and pouring/mixing liquor.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Hospitality Manager
Accountable to assigned Manager on Duty in absence of direct manager.
Makes communication with team members and supervisors a priority with voice mail, written communication, scheduled meetings, and Ceridian Dayforce system.
Develops solid working relationships with all property functional areas (including Restaurant, Winemaking, Cellar) to ensure seamless execution of tours/experiences both on property and offsite.
Continuous focus on service excellence with property guests.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Physical Effort: Majority of time is spent moving about with frequent need to move and lift/transport light to moderately heavy articles including tables, chairs, empty wine barrels, cases of wine/spirits (est. weight @ 40 pounds).
Physical Environment: Indoor and outdoor work required based on tour/experience design. Frequent outdoor work in peak summer months with exposure to what can be intense outdoor heat (up to 40 degrees).
Sensory Attention: Achieve a balance of providing service excellence to guests while executing tour/experience set ups and tear downs. Awareness of daily functions and ability to read Open Table schedule.
Mental Stress: Evening, weekend and holiday work required; with increased frequency during peak summer months where work environment becomes fast paced due to guest volumes and seasonal property events.
Skills, Knowledge, Experience
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously to accomplish assigned goals.
Self-starter; capable of working without constant supervision.
Ability to recognize when guests and team members would benefit from support and assistance; contributing to others’ initiatives without having to be asked.
“Serving it Right” certification an asset.
