Job summary

Misericordia Health Centre in Winnipeg is seeking a Polysomnography Technician to perform diagnostic, therapeutic, and research studies under supervision. You will maintain equipment and assist in daily Sleep Disorder Centre operations, while adhering to safety and infection control standards.

We require six months of polysomnography trainee experience or completion of a training program, CPR certification, and basic respiratory physiology knowledge.

Qualifications

• Six months+ experience as a Polysomnography Trainee or completion of a polysomnography training program.
• Knowledge of basic respiratory physiology preferred.
• CPR training as per employer policy.

Position Overview

A Polysomnography Technician, under direct supervision of a Polysomnography Technologist, the Polysomnography Coordinator, and Sleep Disorder Centre/HVADS Manager (indirect reporting relationship to Sleep Disorder Centre Medical Director):

• Performs diagnostic, therapeutic, and research Polysomnography studies and related therapies.
• Performs routine equipment care and maintenance; conducts routine inventory of supplies.
• Participates in the day-to-day operations of the Sleep Disorder Centre.
• Complies with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.

Experience

• Practical experience using polysomnography equipment, electro-encephalography, electrooculography, electromyography, respiratory monitoring and electrocardiography required.
• Practical experience using respiratory equipment in the treatment of sleep apnea is also required.
• Basic computer skills/knowledge is required.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

• A minimum of six (6) months’ experience as a Polysomnography Trainee with documented proficiency in all required competencies (Phase I and Phase II checklists) or successful completion of a polysomnography training program.
• Knowledge of basic respiratory physiology preferred.
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

• Current and valid CPR certificate is required.

• Incumbent is required to work alternating weekly day and night shifts, including weekends.

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.
