About Our Opportunity

We’re constantly evolving and need your expertise to inform our policies. Over the next several months, we will hire for various policy positions across our multiple departments in various locations across the province. Typical opportunities will include:

  • Policy Coordinators: Support the development and implementation of policies by coordinating resources, timelines, and ensuring clear communications throughout.
  • Policy Analysts: Engage in qualitative and quantitative research, assess data, and help shape recommendations that contribute to the development of new policies or the revision of existing ones.
  • Senior Policy Analysts: Lead complex policy initiatives, providing expertise on emerging policy challenges & trends, and offer strategic advice to senior leadership.

Primary Accountabilities

In any of these roles, you can expect to:

  • Conduct comprehensive research and analysis to inform policy decisions.
  • Support or lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies and programs.
  • Draft informative reports and policy documents that convey complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to align policies with departmental goals and Nova Scotians’ diverse needs.
  • Monitor emerging trends, risks, and opportunities that impact policy development.
  • Assist in the coordination of meetings and communication with key partners.

Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for motivated individuals with a passion for public policy, strong analytical skills, and the ability to thrive in fast-paced environments. The minimum requirements are:

  • Policy Coordinators: A completion of a related bachelor’s degree.
  • Policy Analysts: A completion of a related bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of experience in policy analysis, research, and development.
  • Senior Policy Analysts: A completion of a related bachelor’s degree and six (6) years of experience in policy analysis, research, and development.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

The ability to:

  • Proactively identify opportunities and recommend informed innovative solutions.
  • Break down complex problems and assess data to draw meaningful insights.
  • Ensure accuracy in data analysis, report writing, and policy development.
  • Convey and present information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Navigate changing priorities and evolving policy landscapes with resilience.
  • Foster positive relationships and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams).
  • Coordinate multiple projects and deadlines efficiently.

Assets include:

  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
  • Familiarity with government policies and decision-making processes.
  • Experience with change management initiatives.
  • Certifications in policy analysis or project management.
  • Experience working with diverse communities integrating an equity and anti-racist lens in policy development.

Salary Information

Policy Coordinators: $1,773.75 to $2,919.02 Bi-Weekly

Policy Analysts: $2,262.74 to $3,532.03 Bi-Weekly

Senior Policy Analysts: $2,760.42 to $4,273.75 Bi-Weekly

Working Conditions

These opportunities offer a balanced and supportive working environment with a typical regular work week of 35 hours. You will be based in a modern office setting, with some roles requiring occasional travel to project locations and communities. Work outside normal business hours may be necessary during peak periods.
