The Department of Paediatrics at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is seeking a Government Relations and Policy Coordinator to support the objectives of the Child Health Policy Accelerator ('Accelerator'). As Canada's first hospital-based applied child and youth health and social policy initiative, the mission of the Accelerator is two-fold: (1) to forward specific, focused, evidence-based policy objectives designed to deliver positive change for children and youth in Canada; and (2) to train the next generation of maternal and child health change-makers by facilitating didactic, episodic, and longitudinal policy immersion experiences.
The successful candidate will provide coordination and support across the full breadth of the Accelerator's federal government relations and advocacy activities. This is a one-year contract position with a significant focus on organizing the Accelerator's annual Hill Days in Ottawa and coordinating meetings with Parliamentarians and other federal decision-makers. The Government Relations and Policy Coordinator will work closely with the Policy Lead and the broader Accelerator team, gaining exposure to the policy details of each of the Accelerator's files while supporting general government relations and advocacy outreach. The successful candidate will bring strong organizational skills, a genuine interest in government and public policy, and a passion for creating positive change for Canadian children, youth and their families.
The Government Relations and Policy Coordinator will report to the Policy Lead, Child Health Policy Accelerator, and will support all of the Accelerator's files on events and general government relations and advocacy outreach. The role carries a significant focus on organizing the Accelerator's Hill Days in Ottawa and coordinating meetings with Parliamentarians and other decision-makers, and offers exposure to the policy details of every file in the Accelerator's portfolio. While the ability to perform focused work independently is essential, collaboration is the cornerstone of the Accelerator. We seek a candidate who will thrive on the energy generated by sharing ideas, pushing boundaries and exploring new possibilities, and who is eager to build foundational government relations experience in a fast-paced, hospital-based health policy environment.
