The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Nursing Practice and Clinical Supports, the Policy Consultant will lead teams through the policy process, utilizing expert knowledge of policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines. The role involves developing and implementing a strong policy culture aligned with IWK Health’s strategic goals, ensuring policies are current and reflect best practices.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Supporting and guiding programs, teams, and healthcare providers on policy processes in collaboration with the policy team
  • Monitoring trends and issues within IWK Health and the healthcare system related to practice and population care
  • Ensuring policies support IWK Health’s mission, vision, values, and comply with organizational bylaws, rules, and regulations
  • Applying change management strategies to lead projects within the policy portfolio
  • Building capacity for policy development by establishing high standards and demonstrating leadership

Hours of Work

0800 – 1600, Monday – Friday, Hybrid

Your Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate degree in a health care field required
  • Master’s degree is an asset
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure with the relevant professional body
  • Minimum of 3 years recent experience in policy drafting within a complex organization
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to multitask under tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of evidence-based approaches for policy development, planning, and quality improvement
  • Experience leading and managing project teams collaboratively
  • Ability to function as a change agent, thinking reflectively and leading change initiatives
  • Successful completion of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (BLS) Program within the last 12 months, or renewal certificate
  • Knowledge and application of the IWK Leadership Framework (LEADS)
