Policy and Government Relations Coordinator (Fixed Term)

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Policy and Government Relations Coordinator will provide critical support to the Associate Director, Advocacy and Government Relations and the rest of the Canada team in advancing ONE’s advocacy and policy objectives. This role involves research and analysis, high-level document preparation, and assisting with coordination of government relations.

The successful candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, with a good capacity to understand and synthesize complex policy issues into clear and compelling background materials, and capable of managing multiple priorities within a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.

This is a full-time, fixed-term (1 year contract) opportunity reporting directly to the Associate Director, Advocacy and Government Relations and based in the Ottawa area.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL

  • Support the Associate Director in implementing ONE’s government relations and advocacy strategy, including tracking progress against short-term and long-term goals.
  • Support the preparation of research reports and policy briefs by compiling data, summarizing findings, and drafting sections as needed. Review and edit documents to ensure clarity, accuracy, fact and data checking, and alignment with ONE’s messaging and strategic goals.
  • Gather and analyze data related to development issues such as Official Development Assistance (ODA), the Canadian budget, global health, economic development, education, and food security.
  • Contribute to the development of high-impact documents, such as content for ONE’s website, blog posts, talking points, and briefing materials for senior staff.
  • Assist in organizing events and trainings, including through helping prepare training materials and providing logistical support for events in and around Parliament Hill.
  • Provide coordination and communication support to the Associate Director by following up with government officials including Parliamentarians.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING TO ONE

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred in political science, international development, economics or other related field.
  • 2+ years’ relevant professional experience in the field of policy analysis, international development, and/or in political or government offices (will consider internship experience).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite. Ability to use data management software (ex. Excel) a strong asset.
  • Ability to synthesize complex documents and issues and write in clear, succinct language.
  • Ability to manage multiple, shifting priorities under tight deadlines while performing in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Related work history in poverty and infectious disease alleviation, advocacy, policy, legislation and/or demonstrable interest in the causes ONE supports a strong asset.
  • Authorization to work in Canada is required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Fluency in English required. Fluency in French a strong asset.

TRAVEL:

Occasional domestic travel (5-10%) may be required. Additional international and/or domestic travel opportunities may occur.

COMPENSATION:

CAD $43,500 – $55,000 per year.

This salary range is based on compensation survey data for similar organizations and is used to set pay internally at ONE. Where a new hire’s salary falls within this range is based on a variety of factors, including the budget available for this position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

ONE in Canada operates in a majority virtual environment. The position will require the candidate to come to Ottawa for events and meetings on average 2 times a month on their own means.
