Job summary

Government of Alberta is launching a Training Constable program within the Alberta Sheriffs Police Service. The role delivers practical training to recruits and staff, under the supervision of the Sergeant, Police Trainer, to ensure readiness and adherence to ASPS standards.

Four permanent full-time positions are available in Calgary or Edmonton with a standard 36.25-hour week. The position may transition to sworn status in the future, and initial assignments will be civilian before approval of

Qualifications

• University degree in Criminology, Police Studies, Criminal Justice, Adult Education or related behavioral sciences.
• Four years of experience as a police officer eligible for appointment in Alberta.
• Knowledge of the Police Act (Alberta), Criminal Code of Canada and Charter and how they apply to training.

Responsibilities

• Deliver practical, operational training to recruits and members through instruction and coaching.
• Assess performance through observation, evaluation, and documentation (e.g., DORs).
• Support recruitment and in-service training (classroom, practical, and scenario-based).
• Maintain accurate training records and contribute to program improvement.
• Deliver mandatory training (e.g., use-of-force, firearms) as required.
