Job Description

Job Purpose: The Playground Worker will assist the Playground Leader with planning and facilitating recreational activities, life skills and lessons in a playground setting that aim to uplift and empower community children. The Playground Worker will support building relationships with program participants and their families, while helping to provide safe, healthy and fun activities for children during the summer.

Accountabilities:

  • Assist with planning and leading recreational, educational, athletic, arts & crafts, and mentoring activities.
  • Participate in maintaining program equipment and supplies.
  • Assist in completing registration or attendance forms.
  • Connect with families and promote the program.
  • Encourage a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Work cooperatively with other organizations and churches involved in programming.
  • Represent organizational values and link children and families to community resources.
  • Assist with food security initiatives and outreach programs, including summer camp preparations.
  • Assist with donations when required.
Relationship Management

Internal: MU leadership, staff, volunteers. External: Community members.

Responsibilities

Reports to the CFS Director. No direct reports.

Financial & Material Responsibilities

Minor responsibilities. No involvement in handling funds or budget decisions.

Working Conditions

Primarily outdoors in playground environments. May need to lift up to 30 pounds.

Qualifications

Willingness to support the mission of The Salvation Army. Compliance with OH&S regulations. Alternative education and experience considered.

High school coursework required. Skills include professionalism, confidentiality, teamwork, organization, and attention to detail. Experience with children, communication, and conflict resolution are essential.

Eligibility for Canada Summer Jobs
  • Age 15-30 at employment start.
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee protected person.
  • Valid Social Insurance Number and legal right to work in Canada.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Background and Vulnerable Sector Checks.
Compensation

Range: $15.65 to $16.90, up to $20.28, based on experience and other factors.
