Thrive Therapy is hiring a Play Therapist to join our expanding team. The Play Therapist will provide child-centered, evidence-based therapeutic services to children through play-based modalities. This role includes assessment, treatment planning, one-on-one therapy, parent support, and collaboration with other professionals. The ideal candidate is empathetic, creative, and committed to fostering emotional well-being in children.

Requirements :

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, or a related field.
  • Registered and in good standing with a relevant professional college (e.g., NSCSW, NSBEP, CCPA).
  • Certification or formal training in Play Therapy (e.g., through the Canadian Association for Play Therapy - CAPT or equivalent), or in the process of certification.
  • Experience providing play-based therapy to children.
  • Knowledge of child development, trauma-informed care, and mental health issues in children.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Current (or willing to obtain) Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector and Child Abuse Registry Check.
  • Liability insurance as required by regulatory body.
  • Legal ability to work in Canada.

Responsibilities :

  • Provide therapeutic play-based interventions to children (typically ages 2–12) with a variety of emotional, behavioural, and developmental challenges.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Collaborate with caregivers, school personnel, and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Participate in regular team meetings, case consultations, and professional development.
  • Support family engagement and offer guidance to caregivers on therapeutic strategies.
  • Ability to work independently and complete assessments and reports in a timely manner.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate with the client, family, and their team.
  • Above all - a passion for working with clients and families with various needs!
