Job description

NES Fircroft is a leading global technical recruitment company providing professional contract and permanent staff to a diverse client base within the oil & gas industry.

Our valued client is seeking Plant/Process Operators near Cold Lake, AB for a 1-year contract. Candidates must be local to the area or willing to relocate to the Lakeland area and must have a reliable vehicle for travel to and from the site (approx. 40 km from Cold Lake). Note that no camp or LOA is provided.

Main Functions

Responsible for liaising with the Control Room Technician (CRT) and other Operations Technicians regarding job safety requirements to ensure understanding of work objectives, safety, health, environmental, Operations Integrity Management System (OIMS), and security concerns. Support the CRT/Ops Supervisor in overseeing area activities, ensuring they are integrated and conducted safely and efficiently. Work in a crew environment to manage activities involved in the safe and efficient operation of plant units and sulfur recovery operations. Perform equipment surveillance.

Tasks and Responsibilities
  1. Participate in Operations Emergency Response activities related to the Area.
  2. Support and coordinate with the Systems Completion team during start-up and commissioning of facilities.
  3. Review work packages for planned maintenance within the allocated Area, ensure isolation requirements are applied, and verify that equipment is prepared safely for personnel work.
  4. Endorse Work Permits as the Area Operator (AO) and as the Isolating Authority (IA) when required.
  5. Encourage teamwork between Maintenance and Operations groups.
  6. Support work prioritization to maximize effectiveness and complement other work groups.
  7. Ensure the CRT is informed and consulted about operations and major issues.
  8. Maintain good communication to address issues and complete actions.
  9. Maintain good housekeeping standards.
  10. Keep a daily log and shift changeover notes.
  11. Perform physical tasks safely, such as moving drums of chemicals, lifting, and climbing ladders, silos, or tanks.
  12. Perform minor maintenance on equipment as needed.
  13. Ensure high standards of plant housekeeping.
  14. Make process adjustments to ensure quality control of end products within accepted standards.
Skills and Qualifications
  1. Minimum 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate.
  2. At least 5 years’ industry experience in operations or similar.
  3. Extensive knowledge of production operations and processes.
  4. Proficiency in reading P&IDs, PFDs, and UFDs.
  5. Ability to read shutdown logic diagrams.
  6. Strong safety, health, and environmental awareness and the ability to promote the same among others.
  7. Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written.
  8. Interpersonal and motivational skills.
  9. Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  10. Advanced understanding of Emergency Preparedness Procedures.
  11. Knowledge of safety management tools and processes, including PTW, Stepback 5x5, JSA, and Risk Assessment.
  12. Understanding of CIMS, safety management tools, and Production Operations Best Practices (POBP)/Planning & Budgeting (P&B) processes.
