The Department of Facilities & Building Operations is responsible for maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for all staff, patients and visitors. This is accomplished by responding to preventative and demand maintenance requests, participation on various health centre committees, training of our staff in safe work practices such as lock out/tag out, working from heights and non-violent crisis prevention, etc. Facilities employs licensed tradespersons from various disciplines who bring with them years of experience that they apply to their everyday work at RVH.
The Facilities team is supported by a Maintenance Planner and 2 Supervisors who report to the Director of Facilities and building operations. Our team of highly trained professionals draw on a wealth of experience and technical expertise in maintaining the health centre’s physical environment. We provide maintenance services to achieve the highest standards of quality healthcare and patient service at our campus on Georgian Drive as well as two off-site buildings on Wellington Street in Barrie. As the direct resource for the health centre's utility infrastructure, we ensure a safe, functional, supportive, and effective environment for patients, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
As a Facilities Mechanic, you must be as passionate about what you do and as committed to excellent quality and patient safety as we are.
You will be responsible for ensuring that all boilers (steam and hydronic), hospital water treatment systems, HVAC systems, chillers, relative equipment such as emergency diesel generators, pumps, compressors, and other various equipment are operating in a safe and efficient manner.
As a qualified candidate you will have the following job requirements:
- GED or suitable post-secondary Diploma and Certified in an accredited technology or a trade program such as HVAC technician, Building Environmental Systems Operator (BES), 4th class engineer or licensed trade such as Millwright, Electrician, Plumber
- Preferably 5+ years experience in a Healthcare environment or 5 + years accredited or licensed experience
- Working knowledge of water treatment and associated equipment within a Plant setting
- A willingness to learn new tasks, techniques and equipment including computerized monitoring systems
- Familiarity and willingness to learn and become proficient in the reading and operation of a modern fire panel, elevators, building automation, HVAC, and mechanical systems, and Emergency Generator systems
- Experience working with outside contractors and vendors to ensure building systems functions are maintained
- Basic ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and operating manuals
- Ability to acquire an applied knowledge of building codes, fire regulations, WHMIS, OHSA, ESA, TSSA , OBC requirements
- Fundamental ability to write short memos and provide updates using Microsoft Word and Excel
- Capable of sending retrieving and responding to emails messages and to create and accept meeting invites in Microsoft Outlook

- Willingness to acquire and/or maintain trade certificates, designations, licenses, etc. and attend training course, workshops as may be required
- Ability to respond to and support emergency situations where safeguarding staff and patient safety is paramount
- Desire to work in a progressive environment geared towards change, innovation and optimizing efficiencies
