Job Purpose

The Plant Manager is responsible for managing Sanmina's high technology IMS facility located in Kanata, Ont. This facility supports mission critical products in the defense, aerospace, communications and medical market segments. This role has full P&L responsibility for the facility leading a team including the manufacturing, engineering, quality, materials/purchasing, and facility operations. This position will play a key role in achieving broad based business goals including revenue and profitability growth, customer satisfaction and technology development all built on foundations of world class quality and execution. The successful candidate will be a leader who can communicate with and motivate a talented team that he or she will continue to build and develop. Reporting to the SVP East Coast Operations, the Plant Manager also works closely with the local team to develop an operations strategy. This multi-year strategy should embrace the concepts, principles, and philosophies of Lean Manufacturing.

Nature of Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develops a high performance, leadership-oriented Production Team.
  • Provides a high level of leadership and management sufficient to motivate, develop, and guide the organization to achieving operational goals and objectives.
  • Directs operations to ensure compliance with prescribed quality, cost, delivery, and other performance standards. Obtains planned results.
  • Ensures a high level of customer satisfaction and effective customer relations.
  • Fosters an operations environment that provides a safe and environmentally responsible facility.
  • Selects, trains, develops, and motivates employees to maximize individual potential, achieve operational effectiveness, and ensure ongoing organizational capability.
  • Maintains plant property and equipment in good condition to ensure compliance with governmental regulations and to ensure effective and economical operations.
  • Proven track record in a very labour intensive & high mix/low volume production environment.

Education and Experience:

  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Excellent presentation and influence skills.
  • Strong ability to plan at both strategic and operational levels.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing philosophies, operations, processes, and related technologies.
  • Demonstrated competence in lean manufacturing methodologies and continuous improvement systems (e.g., Six Sigma, TOC or Lean Manufacturing).
  • Strong knowledge of quality systems, tools, and procedures ISO9001, TL9000 and AS9100, QS14000 and related customer quality standards and requirements.
  • Excellent understanding and the ability to manage capital and expense budgets.
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems and lead teams to solve complex problems.
  • Personal computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft applications.
  • Undergraduate degree in a business/manufacturing related field (e.g. finance, engineering, business).
  • Minimum of 10 years’ progressive management experience in a manufacturing environment with a very strong focus in Material Management.
  • Able to obtain your Controlled Goods Certification, as well as International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) Clearance.
  • Post-graduate degree in a related field is an asset.
