Job description

Leeco Steel is the leading supplier of steel plate from the premier mills worldwide. We are seeking a Plant Manager to oversee our Hamilton, Ontario location.

Position Summary:

Responsible for the day to day operations of the warehouse facility in compliance with established rules and procedures which ensures the timely and accurate delivery of quality material to Leeco customers. Assist in developing, interpreting and implementing company policies and procedures for warehouse operations employees.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:

  • Monitor incoming orders, machine backlogs, the status of production equipment and manpower levels on a daily basis in an effort to maintain an acceptable level of customer service.
  • Consult with management , sales , and shop personnel to develop specific plans to maintain operations equipment to achieve maximum productivity with minimal problems. Ensure personnel is trained on proper documentation, inventory, logistics challenges, equipment maintenance and workflow operations.
  • Participate with quality assurance personnel in developing policies and procedures to ensure an acceptable level of quality goods and services. Responsible for error-free work to all internal and external customers as related to the output of their position.
  • Conduct performance and salary evaluations of subordinates in a timely manner.
  • Assist as needed to justify and initiate capital expenditure requests and request for employee additions and replacements.
  • Recruit, interview and select warehouse personnel. Ensure employee development through training and delegation of responsibility: assist employees with career planning.
  • Analyze and initiate efforts to control costs and continually develop and manage monitor cost reduction programs.
  • Operate plant with a high emphasis on safety and accident prevention. Conduct or attend all safety meetings.
  • Initiate employee counseling or disciplinary sessions where appropriate to maintain order, safety, quality, housekeeping and productivity.
  • Develop and implement activities designed to improve plant operations.
  • Review and approve expenses related to plant operation. Provide the mechanism for opportunities for expense reduction.
  • Supervise the development and implementation of work schedules for warehouse and delivery personnel.
  • Respond to periodic request for information from management and corporate functions.
  • Encourage operations employees to offer creative ideas and innovative solutions to problems which impede company growth and profitability.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of plant shipping and receiving operations. Drive efficiency improvements in truck scheduling and utilization. Track and measure load accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian Health and Safety standards, and all other applicable federal, province and local laws.
  • Obtain necessary permits, licenses, etc. for normal business operation.

Required Skills: To qualify for consideration an applicant should possess the following skills: Possession of these skills is a preferred for employment.

Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent of 5 years of warehouse/operations management experience.

Strong organizational and people management skills.
