Job description

We are currently looking for an onsite Plant HR Manager who will be responsible for providing bilingual (English / French) HR support for multiple plant locations (Terrebonne and Mississauga).

The position requires fluency in both English and French to communicate effectively with all levels of employees within the division, based on day-to-day business needs. Language proficiency requirements depend on the role level and business needs.

The Plant HR Manager will handle employee relations activities at designated plant locations. Responsibilities include understanding and applying relevant HR legislation such as PIPEDA, ESA, CNESST, WSIB, and other legal requirements to protect the company and maintain non-union status where applicable. The role involves conducting surveys on employee morale, wages, benefits, and employment issues, and developing reports and recommendations for management. The HR Manager will work with management to communicate, train, coach, and assist employees to maintain effective morale. Additionally, they may assist with local hourly recruiting, diversity hiring, employee tracking, and interviewing, and will advise on employee and management counseling related to policies, procedures, legal compliance, performance, discipline, benefits, restructuring, etc.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Participating in the selection process for salaried and key leadership roles at the plants.
  2. Driving structured interview processes.
  3. Identifying trends or concerns in hourly hiring and workforce planning and taking appropriate action.
  4. Understanding and applying corporate policies, procedures, and legal standards in hiring.
  5. Promoting diversity and inclusion in recruiting efforts.
  6. Partnering with plants to implement initiatives for capability, capacity, and succession planning.
  7. Onboarding new managers and ensuring their smooth integration.
  8. Designing effective compensation programs aligned with local external environments, working with Corporate Compensation.
  9. Communicating pension and retirement programs effectively.
  10. Implementing compensation changes consistently, including spot bonuses, job structures, and base rates.
  11. Training local resources on compensation and benefits, and addressing concerns.
  12. Communicating general wage increases appropriately.
  13. Staying informed about new laws and regulations and assisting with their implementation locally.
  14. Understanding key talent management processes and identifying performance issues.
  15. Conducting annual harassment and workplace violence training.
  16. Participating in SPS activities within HR and locally.
  17. Ensuring completion of diversity, inclusion, and unconscious bias training when available.
  18. Providing support and guidance to employees on concerns, performance, and last chance agreements.
  19. Applying Level A policy understanding to employee situations.
  20. Facilitating open discussions and meetings for complaints and conflict resolution.
  21. Building positive relationships with the workforce and union representatives.
  22. Administering contracts appropriately and working through grievances with the Labor Relations group.
  23. Using relevant systems (e.g., KRONOS, SIMON, Workday) for daily operations.
  24. Understanding business processes enabled by these systems and how information flows.
  25. Maintaining effective relationships with internal partners and balancing employee and business interests.
  26. Demonstrating the ability to multitask efficiently.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 7+ years of direct HR experience, preferably in a manufacturing setting.
  • Proficiency in English, both oral and written, to communicate with non-French-speaking customers and suppliers.
  • 10+ years of HR experience preferred.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • HR Certification (HRCI or SHRM) preferred.
