JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Plant Engineer - Electrical.

Reporting to the Electrical Production Technical Supervisor, this position is responsible for providing technical advice and guidance on a variety of technical matters within the designated area of responsibility for hydro station maintenance, operations, performance, design and commissioning.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Providing technical support and leadership to maintenance crews and management.
  • Manage electrical engineering assessments, studies, inspections, investigations, designs, and evaluations for hydro turbine generators and auxiliary systems associated with hydroelectric generation.
  • Preparation of drawings, technical specifications and construction estimates.
  • End to end management of request for proposals (RFP) process.
  • Provide technical support in regards to hydroelectric station maintenance operations, performance, design and commissioning.
  • Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and government agencies as required.
  • Respond to emergencies, conduct field investigations, prepare reports, and recommend actions; pre-start health and safety reviews, investigation of safety or technical incidents.
  • Develop plans, standards and technical procedures for inspection, maintenance and asset life management programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4 year University Degree in Electrical Engineering; Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) certification in good standing in the Province of Ontario is an asset.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience as an Electrical Engineer; demonstrate technical knowledge of hydro-electric generation; consideration will be given to more junior candidates as well.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • High Voltage equipment over 115kV (transformers, breakers, switches).
    • Medium voltage equipment 600V to 115kV (switchgear, disconnects, grounding, arc flash analysis).
    • Exciters (static and rotated).
    • Electrical Protections.
    • PLC, SCADA system and real time control networks (large scaled and wide geo would be a plus).
    • Hydro generators and auxiliary systems.
  • Experience conducting assessments, testing, studies, inspections, investigations, design, evaluations, construction monitoring & maintenance of electrical works associated with generating stations.
  • Experience participating in and leads root cause analysis for equipment issues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills for the purposes of gathering and relaying information, resolving issues of concern.
  • Good organizational and leadership skills, and to be a self-starter who can work both independently and in a team environment that is dedicated to engineering excellence and best practices.
  • High integrity, upholding company values including H&S, and protection of the environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the OH&S Act and Regulations, especially for Industrial Establishments (Ont Reg 851) & Construction (Ont Reg 213) and various codes and standards associated with electrical engineering and application of their requirements.
  • Results and detail oriented individual.
  • Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the Province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario.
