A leading research organization in Edmonton is seeking a Plant Assistant for their Real Property Planning and Management Branch. The role includes supporting maintenance tasks in electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. Candidates must have a Secondary School Diploma and experience in an industrial maintenance environment. We are looking for a Plant Assistant to support the Real Property Planning and Management Branch. The incumbent shares NRC core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

The Plant Assistant provides assistance to staff in electrical, plumbing, A/C refrigeration and machining/millwright trades and performs maintenance activities including troubleshooting and servicing for mechanical systems and equipment such as pumps, fans, compressors, motors, HVAC equipment, and filters. Other duties may include installing/removing and checking fire extinguishers and safety equipment, cleaning parts and equipment, door repairs, replacing ceiling tiles, and repairing tools and assorted equipment from the tool crib. Additional duties include routine tasks to maintain the community campus in good condition and the ability to write short reports from manuals, drawings, or sketches. Strong communication and computer skills are beneficial.

Experience in an industrial or commercial maintenance environment and in maintaining/troubleshooting equipment such as hand tools, power tools, fan coil units, air handling units, exhaust fans, building automation systems, building equipment, and vehicles. Experience with PPE safety equipment and workplace safety procedures, handling hazardous/chemical products, working at heights, and operating lifts/heavy equipment is preferred.
