Position Overview: This position will remain open until filled. The City of Saint John welcomes new and diverse talent. We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Planner to join our team. You have diverse experience as a planner in both current and long-range planning. You are innovative in how you leverage opportunities and are flexible, enjoying the opportunity to address a wide variety of interesting challenges. You are an excellent communicator who combines diplomacy with clarity in dealing with the development community, citizens, elected officials, and committees, and seeks to work in partnership with all parties to create solutions together.

The opportunity: Saint John's unprecedented growth rate makes this a stimulating time to be a planner here. As a Senior Planner, you will have a lead role in shaping the future of Saint John. You will find the municipal organization committed throughout to a culture of smart growth, innovation, and planning. You will be responsible for developing major projects, processing complex development approvals, and developing and updating key community plans. For example, you will lead Saint John's next Neighbourhood Plan.

What We Offer You:
  • Salary: $85,119 to $103,331.
  • Entrance into a Shared Risk Pension Plan and a Group Benefits Plan on your first day of work, plus a competitive vacation entitlement.
  • May be eligible to participate in a Flexible Time Options Program which includes the option of working a 4 or 5-day work week.

What We Need From You:
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentorship, and communications skills.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships.
  • A minimum of five years' relevant experience.
  • A university degree in planning or a related discipline, preferably at a graduate level.
  • Membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners with Registered Professional Planner (RPP) designation.
  • Candidates with reduced experience will be considered at a developmental level.
