If so, here is your opportunity to be part of the Subdivision and Development Coordination team as a Planning Technician II.
In this position, you will be responsible for receiving, reviewing, and making recommendations to approve or refuse subdivision applications within Edmonton's mature areas as well as condominium conversions from across the city. You will be a key contact for members of the public and the development community providing information and advice related to lot splits and other minor subdivision and condominium applications.
What will you do?
- Be a key player in shaping Edmonton's growth by expertly reviewing and processing subdivision and condominium conversion applications, with a special focus on our vibrant mature neighbourhoods
- Guide applicants through the process, advising them on requirements and ensuring applications are complete and ready for review
- Conduct meticulous technical reviews to ensure full compliance with critical legislation like the Municipal Government Act, Edmonton Zoning Bylaw, and various other plans, policies, and bylaws
- Collaborate with diverse referral agencies to gather essential input, ensuring comprehensive assessments
- Prepare detailed files for the Subdivision Authority, contributing directly to informed decisions that impact our city
- Represent the City at subdivision appeal hearings, providing clear information and confidently justifying decisions and conditions of approval
- Review subdivision endorsement submissions, confirming all conditions have been met for final approval
- Be a primary resource for the public, other departments, and the development industry, responding to a high volume of inquiries about proposed and active applications with accurate and timely information
- Provide excellent and professional customer service to all stakeholders, including community members and City Council, building positive relationships
- Offer insightful information and interpretation on City of Edmonton bylaws, regulations, and policies related to subdivisions, condominiums, and infill development
- Conduct necessary site inspections to ensure alignment with our city's development vision
Qualifications
Qualifications :
- 2 year diploma in Urban or Regional Planning, Architecture, or a related field from a recognized institute of technology
- 5 years of progressively responsible planning experience in land use planning, transportation planning, and the review and response to land development applications
Skills required for success:
- Working knowledge of provincial and municipal legislation, policy, and regulations regarding land use planning
- Ability to interpret and apply policy and regulations contained in the Subdivision and Development Regulation, Condominium Property Regulation, statutory plans, and Edmonton Zoning Bylaw 20001
- Knowledge of planning principles, practices, procedures, and standards required to review and make recommendations on land development applications
- Extensive working knowledge of the City of Edmonton planning process with an ability to interpret and apply at the subdivision stage of development
- Ability to read and interpret subdivision development applications, condominium applications, and endorsement submissions
- Excellent customer service and teamwork skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners, stakeholders, and the public in a fast-paced and multi-disciplinary environment
- Proficient experience conducting research, negotiating, and consulting with stakeholders
- Working knowledge of Google Suite applications and POSSE

Work Environment:
- Note:This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance

Salary Range: $ 44.941 - $56.664 (Hourly); $79,174.81 - $99,827.80 (Annually)
