Responsible to triage daily intake and circulation to Municipal departments, Regional agencies, Province of Ontario and other review partners (ie. Toronto Region Conservation Authority) of all development planning applications, including conducting Pre-Application Consultation (PAC) meetings in accordance with the Planning Act. Responsible for ensuring correct Planning fees submitted. Provide front counter, email and telephone services responding to general inquiries regarding land use designation, zoning requests, and development applications. Responsible for processing all Freedom of Information (FOi) requests on behalf of the department under the legislated Privacy Act. Assist Planners with the preparation of Hearing materials, research, coordination digitizing new development files as well as assisting planners in development application review and report preparation, to streamline workflow process and enhance service levels.
• University Degree in Planning or suitable equivalent
• Minimum two (2) years of planning, development or related municipal experience
• Provisional or full membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners/ Ontario Professional Planners Institute.
• Complete annual continuous professional learning requirements (CPL requirements) to maintain designation as a Registered Planning Professional (RPP).
• Knowledge of planning principles, practices, procedures, standards and familiarity with local government, the political environment and relevant Federal, Provincial policy and legislation, notably the Ontario Planning Act, Provincial Policies and Plans, the York Regional Official Plan, City Official Plan and Zoning By-law.
• A high level of skill in research, problem-solving, oral and written communications, and interpersonal relations.
• Excellent analytical abilities, with a thorough knowledge of analytical research methodologies and computerized analytical techniques.
• Demonstrated ability utilizing analytical, organizational, report writing and communication/presentation skills.
• Ability to receive and handle confidential information through FOi requests• Ability to deal courteously and professionally with public, staff, members of Council and development industry professionals with demonstrated ability to provide quality frontline customer service with the competency to obtain clear understanding and respond in a fair and appropriate manner.
• Demonstrated team player who can work co-operatively with other staff within the Department, other Departments, and external agencies, consultants and Members of Council.• Proficient and thorough working knowledge and application in computer word processing (i.e. Microsoft 365) software, database software (i.e. City Viewer, Plan-lT), presentation software and GIS applications (ArcMap GIS) as well as web-based collaborative platforms such as SharePoint and e-Scribe.
• Computer literacy with ability to adjust to changing technological requirements.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks working efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work outside normal business hours, as required, and in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
• A valid Ontario 'G' driver's license, in good standing, with access to a reliable vehicle for corporate use.
