As part of the ONxpress consortium, Alstom is proudly working to transform the collective mobility of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas (GTHA) through the On-Corridor Works project. We are hiring for hundreds of roles, including for the GO Expansion scope: new electric locomotives, fleet upgrades, train control systems, network electrification, signalling, telecommunications, digital systems, maintenance, and more.

Objective

The Planning Manager will support scheduling teams and liaise with the construction and testing and commissioning teams for internal and external reporting. Previous experience managing planning teams in a multi-project environment and providing reporting is required.

  • Work closely with the Project Manager to provide accurate time management information supporting decision-making to achieve the expected On Time Delivery (OTD) performance of the project (tender, contract, or program execution).
  • Develop and maintain the project/program schedule using best practices, reflecting the project execution strategy, capturing the entire scope, setting activity durations, sequencing activities logically, minimizing date constraints, avoiding dangling activities, verifying the schedule's critical path, assigning resources, checking schedule float, verifying resource plans, running schedule risk analyses, and setting baselines.
  • Manage planning deliverables efficiently.
  • Facilitate communication among internal stakeholders.
  • Proactively report schedule progress to various stakeholders (customer, core team, corporate).

Main Responsibilities:

  • Define and maintain the Project Time Management Plan, updating it with stakeholder inputs.
  • Coordinate the project scheduling community.
  • Build the project schedule based on internal standards, contractual targets, and stakeholder data.
  • Contribute to the construction and testing & commissioning schedule knowledge.
  • Propose and obtain acceptance for the project baseline.
  • Ensure consistency of commitments across all stakeholders and manage schedule interfaces.
  • Perform schedule analysis and trade-offs to address gaps or issues.
  • Lead periodic project schedule sessions.
  • Provide timely schedule updates highlighting deviations from the baseline.
  • Identify potential delays early, focusing on critical paths, risks, and margins.
  • Prepare schedule and progress reports for clients and partners.
  • Support the Project Core Team on scheduling issues.
  • Apply the Project Scheduling Process and promote time management practices.
  • Coach the planning team in project planning practices.
  • Share best practices, schedule templates, and contribute to lessons learned.

Performance measurements in contract or program execution:

  • Approved baseline (internally and by the customer).
  • Regular schedule updates with delay analyses.
  • On-time delivery of KPIs and planning documents.
  • Use of standard metrics like PSI (Project Schedule Integrity).

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related discipline.

Experience:

  • 7-10 years’ experience as a PrPM, SSM, Project Development Planning Manager, or Reporting Manager.
  • Background in project management and industry.
  • Experience with complex design-build projects.
  • Familiarity with internal processes (tenders, projects, engineering, sourcing, etc.).
  • Experience with resource-loaded schedules, SOV, EVM.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 and MS Project is mandatory.
  • Advanced MS Office skills, especially Excel.
  • Knowledge of railway products and systems is desirable.
  • Ability to manage multiple schedules and scenarios, forensic planning, and be detail-oriented.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently, be trustworthy, proactive, and detail-focused.
  • Comfortable in an international, multicultural environment.
