Job summary

Infrastructure Ontario (IO), an Ontario crown corporation, provides a wide range of services to support the Ontario government’s initiative to modernize and maximize the value of public infrastructure and realty. IO has been recognized domestically and internationally for the way it does business and the success it has had with its major projects, real estate services, infrastructure lending, commercial projects, and development mandate. IO delivers some of the most complex, ambitious commercial and land development solutions for the Province and continues to evolve and expand its capabilities to maximize its public impact and deliver on its vision of creating a connected, modern and competitive Ontario.

Real Estate Services provides comprehensive property management services for government owned and leased properties, offering end-to-end real estate accommodation options to client ministries to ensure safe and secure operations through asset management, capital planning, and project management solutions. It also provides strategic asset planning services to MOI to maximize the value of government assets through portfolio planning and rationalization. IO currently oversees the management of the Greater Real Estate Portfolio (GREP) comprised of more than 42 million rentable square feet of space on behalf of the Province.

Position Purpose: Provide professional land use planning and design expertise, analysis, strategic advice, and recommendations for government decision-making for real estate, development, project delivery, value enhancement, and divestment projects to protect portfolio value and advance provincial priorities.

What You Will Do

  • Advise IO colleagues and government key partners on planning, design and development opportunities, constraints, requirements, and strategic alignment of program and real estate priorities.
  • Lead and team with Senior Planners and/or Director to provide strategic planning, design and development advice.
  • Manage Planning Act applications to secure approvals for planning and development projects.
  • Provide and interpret technical land use planning expertise and real estate market knowledge.
  • Monitor and respond to changes in planning legislation, policy, and regulatory framework and their impact to provincial lands.
  • Develop community master plans, conceptual site plans, massing studies, shadow impact studies, development feasibility analysis and review of impacts of surrounding development applications.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to planning and development projects related to built form, site layout, parkland and public realm design, transit supportiveness, and other identified priorities

What We Are Looking For

  • University Degree in Planning, Urban Design or related discipline(s).
  • Intermediate experience in land use planning and experience working with development projects, from master planning to site specific design plans, with a strong understanding of built form typologies, quality graphic communication, and design sketching skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of planning policies and processes in Ontario MCIP RPP (Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners, Registered Professional Planner), achieved or candidate member in process.
  • Strong knowledge and proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D modeling
  • Graphic computer software proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite specifically InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Proactive and detail-oriented.

The hiring range for this position is $82,800 - $124,100 with a corresponding job level of P4. The exact compensation will align based on the skills, knowledge and experience of the candidate.
