You will build a career and long-lasting relationships based on respect, collaboration, and a solution-focused mindset. Bird is a place where you will unlock your potential and achieve your goals.

Role Overview

As a Planner/Scheduler, you will develop, maintain, and monitor project schedules for construction projects across pre-construction and construction phases. You will collaborate with project teams—including estimating, design, engineering, procurement, construction, and subcontractors—to ensure schedules are realistic, achievable, and aligned with contract and company requirements.

This role involves tracking progress, analyzing performance, identifying delays, and developing mitigation strategies. Responsibilities include bid support, baseline schedule development, construction monitoring, schedule analysis, and project closeout. Note: The successful candidate must obtain and maintain a Secret-level security clearance. This position is based in our Ottawa office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze RFP documents (drawings, specifications, schedule requirements) to inform schedule development and create preliminary and master project schedules using Primavera P6 / MS Project during bidding and planning phases.
  • Implement scheduling practices including WBS, activity coding, naming conventions, and calendar settings.
  • Validate schedule durations and logic with internal databases, Superintendents, and subtrades.
  • Update project schedules regularly, incorporating as-built data, forecasts, and delay impacts.
  • Conduct site visits as needed to validate progress data.
  • Create look-ahead schedules to support field operations and identify near-term issues.
  • Track and document schedule impacts from changes and delays, performing Time Impact Analyses (TIA) when necessary.
  • Analyze project performance using earned value, float trends, KPIs, and schedule variance metrics.
  • Create as-built vs. as-planned comparisons for lessons learned and claims support.
  • Support 4D/5D schedule integration with 3D models and cost tracking.
  • Review contractor and subcontractor schedules for realism and compliance.
  • Monitor labor, equipment, and material usage and productivity.
  • Forecast resource needs and availability throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in planning/scheduling in construction.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
  • Understanding of construction sequencing, CPM, and project phases.
  • Experience with ICI construction techniques is an asset.
  • Experience in roles such as Trades, Coordinator, Field Engineer, or Superintendent is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout processes.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple schedules and prioritize under deadlines.
  • Problem-solving and performance analysis skills.
