The Planner II operates with moderate autonomy, supports cross-functional collaboration, drives issue resolution, and contributes to improved production performance through effective planning and progress control.

Job Description

The Planner II – Production Control plays a key role in coordinating and optimizing the planning and execution of work packages in late-stage ship construction, primarily for electrical and mechanical outfitting. This mid-level role requires a solid understanding of shipbuilding operations, material planning systems, and production sequencing. The Planner II operates with moderate autonomy, supports cross-functional collaboration, drives issue resolution, and contributes to improved production performance through effective planning and progress control.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop/Modify complete production work packages that include additional production information, material lists, and work instructions required for production execution.
  • Schedule and release work packages within test packs in alignment with system completion plans, ensuring alignment with production and program objectives.
  • Ensure timely completion and closure of shop orders; monitor WIP and outstanding transactions to ensure data accuracy.
  • Track and report physical and transactional production progress; maintain backend reports and dashboards for accurate stakeholder visibility.
  • Generate dispatch lists and work queues for production and warehousing teams, clearly identifying operation priorities.
  • Collaborate with trade supervisors and area managers to sequence and prioritize installation and assembly activities.
  • Validate production readiness by confirming material availability, documentation completeness, and cross-discipline predecessor completion.
  • Identify and resolve material, scope, or sequencing issues to minimize production delays and ensure schedule adherence.
  • Use CMPIC and the in-house electrical management application to manage cable routing, installation status, and scope completion tracking.
  • Coordinate with engineering, planning, and supply chain teams to implement scope changes, resolve constraints, and improve planning processes.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and mentor junior planners as required.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.


What You’ll Bring

  • Post-secondary education or technical certification in Trades, Engineering, Supply Chain, or Project Planning or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in planning, ship design, shipbuilding or related trade experience.
  • Experience in utilizing ERP software tools for material and inventory planning (IFS is preferred).
  • Understanding of shipbuilding operations and relationship between planning, procurement, design and production.
  • Proficiency using ERP/MRP (IFS Preferred)
  • Ability to apply inventory and material management standard principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Knowledge of supply chain management principles including procurement, logistics and inventory management.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing engineering principles, product structures and bills of material.
  • Knowledge of document control systems and databases.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and planning systems (Primavera and MS Project preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize and problem solve.
  • Good judgment and reasoning skills.
  • Ability to work with limited direction and to function as a key team member.

The estimated salary for this position is $84,600 - $103.400. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
