Responsibilities
- Research and prepare reports and recommendations for Planning Act applications and street/alley closing applications.
- Liaise with departments, agencies, consultants, and government personnel.
- Prepare by-law amendments related to Planning Act applications.
- Implement the City’s Official Plan, Zoning By-law, and community plans.
- Negotiate development agreements and coordinate meetings with staff and private developers.
- Respond to public inquiries about planning and development activities.
- Provide professional planning advice and expert evidence at Ontario Land Tribunal hearings.
- Perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as per the Corporation’s program.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- University degree in Planning or related field, or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency, with at least two years of experience.
- Membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners/Ontario Professional Planners Institute as a Registered Professional Planner or ability to attain membership within three years.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.
- Knowledge of Ontario’s Planning Act, Provincial Planning Statement, and related legislation.
- Experience with Committee of Adjustment files is an asset.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, graphic aids, and land information systems.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and related hazards.
- Physical work level is sedentary.
