The Planner plays a key role in enabling smooth execution of production activities by planning and releasing shop orders, identifying constraints, and supporting continuous workflow within their scope of responsibility.

The Planner I, Production Control supports the Planning team by coordinating production sequencing and work-station workload within a defined area of outfit trades during late-stage ship construction. This role is responsible for monitoring schedule adherence, tracking physical and system-based production progress, and ensuring on-time material availability. The Planner plays a key role in enabling smooth execution of production activities by planning and releasing shop orders, identifying constraints, and supporting continuous workflow within their scope of responsibility.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.
What You’ll Do
- Schedule and release material work packages in alignment with milestone, key event, and zone schedules to support production and program deliverables.
- Coordinate production sequencing and workstation workload within assigned planning areas, supporting efficient execution of outfit trade activities.
- Gather and verify all required materials, drawings, and instructions—to ensure production readiness.
- Input and manage work package data, schedules, and budgets in the MRP system; monitor material availability and resolve shortages.
- Track and report both physical and transactional progress, ensuring accurate status reporting through backend systems and stakeholder reports.
- Collaborate with engineering, production control, trades, and supply chain to manage changes and resolve planning constraints.
- Work with production and area leadership to prioritize and sequence manufacturing, assembly, and installation work.
- Proactively identify and resolve issues impacting workflow, schedule adherence, or material readiness to minimize production delays.
- Utilize 3D model, production, and/or functional drawings to generate accurate scope lists for execution in complex outfitting spaces.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and perform additional duties as required.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree/diploma in Operations Management, Business or Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1-3 years of experience in planning and production control in shipbuilding, construction or manufacturing industry.
- Experience in utilizing ERP software tools for material and inventory planning (IFS is preferred).
- Knowledge of production processes.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and techniques.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of planning, scheduling and resource management.
- Technical skills with ability to read blueprint.
- Organizational skills and ability to maintain organized under pressure and in changing environment.
- Attention to details while keeping big-picture goals in mind.
- Problem-solving and critical thinking skills to gather and interpret relevant information.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Project, Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
- Time management skills and ability to work on several issues simultaneously.
- Ability to work well independently or in a team environment and communicate across functions.
- Communication and interpersonal skills to explain rules and procedures clearly.

The estimated salary for this position is $73,800
- $90,200. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
