Job summary

The Town of High Level is seeking a Planner, Community Planning to join our Planning and Development Services team. Reporting to the Director, you will administer and implement our land use planning framework to guide responsible growth and sustainable development in Northern Alberta.

You will review development permits, provide professional planning advice, prepare reports for the Development Authority and Council, and engage with residents and stakeholders to advance Council priorities.

Qualifications

• Degree in Urban Planning or related field.
• Membership or eligibility for CIP and APPI is a strong asset.
• Three to five years of municipal planning experience.
• Experience reviewing development permits, subdivision applications, and planning-related approvals.
• Experience preparing reports and recommendations for senior leadership, boards, committees, or Council.
• Knowledge of Alberta planning legislation, including the Municipal Government Act (MGA).

The Opportunity

What We're Looking For

Your educational background includes a degree in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, Community Planning, Geography, Environmental Studies, Public Administration, or a related discipline. Membership, or eligibility for membership, with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI) is considered a strong asset.

Your experience includes:

• Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in municipal planning, development services, land use planning, or a related field.
• Experience reviewing development permits, subdivision applications, and planning-related approvals.
• Experience preparing reports and recommendations for senior leadership, boards, committees, or Council.
• Knowledge of Alberta planning legislation, including the Municipal Government Act and land use planning processes.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. We welcome applications from early-career professionals, recent graduates, and individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
