Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an Electrical Engineer in Mississauga to lead electrical power systems design for nuclear projects. You will follow QA procedures, interface with clients and multidisciplinary teams, and prepare technical drawings, calculations, and specifications.

Ontario-registered PE is required with 5–7 years in nuclear electrical design. The role involves field walk-downs, design reviews, and supporting procurement and commissioning activities, with a focus on safety and compliance

Qualifications

  • Electrical engineering degree from an accredited university.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario.
  • 5–7 years in electrical engineering and power systems, preferably in the nuclear industry.
  • Experience with CSA 22.1 and The Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC).
  • Site experience in construction or commissioning is an asset.

  • Prepare technical documents including drawings, bill of materials, and design specifications.
  • Review interfacing discipline documentation and input to bid proposals.
  • Provide guidance to Designers/Drafters and supervise junior engineers.

Your role
  • Perform engineering work following AtkinsRéalis/Candu Energy procedures and QA programs, and applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and interface with client(s), suppliers, stakeholders and other design disciplines to execute assigned engineering work.
  • Become involved in conceptual, preliminary and/or detailed design phases to support CANDU and other Nuclear electrical systems and modifications.
  • Prepare technical documents, such as engineering drawings (including GAs, DDs, EDs), change paper markups, calculations, design/analysis reports, design requirements, design manuals, bill of materials, design specifications, technical specifications, component specification sheets, commissioning specifications, etc.
  • Participate in review of interfacing discipline's documentation.
  • Prepare requisitions or Engineering Quotation Requests (EQR) for equipment and materials to support procurement.
  • Interface and provide technical guidance and instruction to Designers/Drafters.
  • Supervising, coordinating and reviewing the work of junior and assistant engineers/ designers; preparing estimates and monitoring schedules and assigns work to meet completion dates to team members.
  • Prepare scope of work and input to bid proposals.
  • Perform field walk-downs during different design phases and prepare Walkdown reports as required.
  • Assist field construction and execution activities, such as field changes, design revisions, commissioning, AFS, closeout, etc.
  • Complete the assigned scopes or tasks within given budget and schedule, and in good quality.
  • Provide prompt response and engineering resolutions on any critical engineering related matters.
About you
  • Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent degree as recognized by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
  • 5 - 7 years of related work experience in electrical engineering and power systems design preferably in the nuclear industry.
  • 3 years of design experience in Nuclear Power Plants would be an asset.
  • Experience with medium voltage and low voltage power distribution systems, including preparation of Single Line diagrams, Elementary Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, Cable Block Diagrams and schedules, and calculation of power demand/ electrical load lists.
  • Experience with transformer sizing, cable sizing, circuit breaker sizing calculations.
  • Experience in modelling electrical power systems and use of analysis functions in ETAP, or other similar software program is an asset.
  • Site experience in construction, or commissioning of electrical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries would be an asset.
  • Familiar with specifying and procurement support for electrical equipment such as Transformers, MCCs, low voltage distribution load centers, UPS systems including rectifiers and inverters and Diesel Generators (emergency and standby), power and control and instrumentation cables.
  • Adequate knowledge of established Nuclear QA guidelines, procedures and practices is preferable.
  • Adequate knowledge of applicable nuclear safety codes and regulations is an asset.
  • Knowledge of modification process of Nuclear Power Plant; ECC process or similar is an asset.
  • Shall have fundamental technical knowledge to resolve engineering issues or technical problems.
  • Good knowledge and experience of CANDU nuclear electrical power systems would be an asset.
  • Good working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, such as of CSA 22.1, Canadian Electrical Code Part I and The Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC).
