Position Overview

This position interacts with FortisBC contractors, consultants, property owners, and the public to proactively prevent damage to FortisBC high-pressure pipelines and assets. It ensures adherence to work permits and monitors for encroachments and unauthorized activities on rights of way and road allowances to ensure public and worker safety, pipeline integrity, and reliability.

Responsibilities

  1. Serve as a FortisBC representative on site.
  2. Under management guidance, ensure compliance with permit requirements, standards, and safety regulations for work around FortisBC high-pressure assets.
  3. Respond to BC 1 Calls as assigned.
  4. Follow established guidelines to locate pipelines, using maps and locating equipment.
  5. Prepare and issue stop work orders for unauthorized or non-compliant work.
  6. Schedule and document daily activities related to BC1 Calls and permits.
  7. Assist with on-site evaluations of pipelines, rights of way, soil conditions, encroachments, and vegetation management.
  8. Perform minor related duties that do not affect job rating.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary technician certificate, preferably in civil engineering technology or petroleum technology.
  • At least 3 years of relevant utility construction experience, including natural gas line locating. Knowledge of CSA Z662, Pipeline Act of BC, and WorkSafe regulations. Must pass a locate ability test.
  • Proficiency with computer systems, applications, and peripherals.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills, capable of formal presentations.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and written communication skills, with attention to spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Effective customer service skills, including conflict resolution and professionalism.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License.
