About You

The Pipeline Developer will support ongoing shows and build the Embassy’s production pipeline. You will be exposed to all areas of production and will be working very closely with the artists, troubleshooting issues and developing custom tools to improve their workflow. The Pipeline Developer performs a diverse series of technical support and engineering functions to ensure the smooth running of our projects.

Your Role

  • Work closely with the 3D team in Maya and Houdini/Solaris, the 2D team in Nuke, and the production team to help ensure that the pipeline meets the needs of the company.
  • Manage, prioritize, review, and resolve tickets related to pipeline issues and needs.
  • Assist in driving the design, implementation, and evolution of the pipeline with a future focus on USD adoption.
  • Perform ad-hoc research and development for show-specific and studio-wide tools.
  • Design and develop tools that aid in the management and assembly of complex CG data.
  • Design Qt-based user interfaces for artists to easily interact with and move data within the pipeline.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving any issues that arise within the pipeline.
  • Stay up to date on relevant industry changes and trends.

Your Qualifications

  • 2 to 3+ years experience in a VFX/animation pipeline role or related role.
  • Knowledge of Python 2.x/3.x and some C++.
  • Thorough knowledge of computer graphics and animation concepts and all the roles involved in the production pipeline.
  • Knowledge of industry DCC software and their APIs (Houdini, Maya, Nuke, etc.) and standard scene data interchange formats (USD, Alembic).
  • Experience building UIs using Qt, PyQt or PySide.
  • Experience with revision control systems such as Git.
  • An understanding of Linux, OS X, user environments, and bash shell scripting.
  • Experience with open-source libraries and their APIs (OpenColorIO, OpenImageIO, OpenTimelineIO, etc.) is preferred.
  • Experience with relational databases (MySQL, Postgres) is preferred.
  • Consistently produce high-quality work in deadline-oriented environments.
  • A constant drive to learn and improve the pipeline.
  • Experience with render managers and distributive computing environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Salary Range: $28.85 - $48.08 per hour.

This range denotes the minimum and maximum compensation limits for this role within the province of British Columbia, adhering to local legal requirements. It's essential to recognize that the salary range for this position may vary when compared to markets outside of British Columbia, with potential variations in both lower and higher figures. The base pay offered is contingent upon factors including internal equity assessments and elements such as the candidate's geographic location, job-related expertise, skills, experience, and other pertinent qualifications.
