Pipelayer (Sewer and Watermain)

Location: Ottawa and surrounding area

Pipelayers lay pipe for storm or sanitary sewers, drains, and water mains. They cover pipe with earth or other materials, cut pipes to required lengths, and help align and position pipe for welding and sealing. They also dig trenches to the desired depths.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Dig trenches to required depth by hand or using trenching tools
  • Cut and move pipe into trenches, align, and join them
  • Cover pipes with earth or other material
  • Signal equipment operators to ensure safe and proper excavation
  • Establish alignment and grade with the use of a laser
  • Operate mechanized equipment such as pickup trucks, rollers, tandem dump trucks, front-end loaders, and backhoes
  • Perform other general labour and construction-related duties as required

Requirements:

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in underground pipe laying or assisting pipe layers
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 25 to 50 lbs on a regular basis
  • Valid driver's license and own mode of transportation required
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Willingness to work overtime as required
