Job summary

Blackline Civil is seeking an experienced Pipelayer to install underground water, sewer, and storm systems across Alberta. The role involves working in trenches beside operators to ensure pipes are laid correctly to line and grade and in compliance with safety standards.

The ideal candidate has 2–5+ years in underground utility construction, can read basic construction drawings, and is comfortable working in trenches around heavy equipment.

Qualifications

• 2–5+ years experience in underground utility construction.
• Ability to read basic construction drawings.
• Experience working in trenches and around heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Install water, sewer, and storm pipes.
• Prepare trench bottoms (bedding, leveling, compacting).
• Align and connect pipe to proper line and grade.
• Work with Topman and excavator operator during trenching.
• Install manholes, catch basins, and fittings.
• Check pipe elevations using lasers or grade rods.
• Ensure proper compaction and backfill.
• Follow all safety procedures and regulations.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Pipelayer to install underground water, sewer, and storm systems. The successful candidate will work in trenches alongside operators and Topman to ensure pipe is installed safely and to proper line and grade.

Key Responsibilities

• Install water, sewer, and storm pipes
• Prepare trench bottoms (bedding, leveling, compacting)
• Align and connect pipe to proper line and grade
• Work with Topman and excavator operator during trenching
• Install manholes, catch basins, and fittings
• Check pipe elevations using lasers or grade rods
• Ensure proper compaction and backfill
• Follow all safety procedures and regulations
  

Qualifications & Experience

• 2–5+ years experience in underground utility construction
• Strong knowledge of:
  • Pipe installation methods
  • Line & grade
  • Trench safety
• Ability to read basic construction drawings
• Experience working in trenches and around heavy equipment
• Physically fit and able to handle demanding work
