Overview

Are you ready to dive into the exciting and innovative world of Engineered Wood? Kadant Carmanah Design has a great opportunity for a well-rounded individual within its Unionized Production team as a Picker/Packer.

Located in Surrey, B.C. Canada, Kadant designs and manufactures equipment for the panel and engineered wood products and sawmill industries. Providing leading edge technology and equipment to optimize fiber use for production of wood-based panels. Our products include SmartDISC stranders, SmartRING stranders, rotary debarkers, chippers and conveying/feeding equipment.

Responsibilities

The Pick/Packer will be part of the Stores team responsible for managing the flow of goods within the warehouse. This role works closely with the Production Manager, Logistics team, and Warehouse Manager to ensure the timely staging, picking, and packing of finished job parts and inventory to meet job start dates and customer delivery deadlines.

The primary focus is to ensure orders are picked and packed accurately and on time. This includes fulfilling orders based on Sales Orders, packing according to Kadant’s quality standards, and staging products with proper documentation and visual aids.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the seamless flow of materials from Sales Order to shipping
  • Maintaining clean, organized, and clutter-free warehouse shelves, floors, and workspaces
  • Executing all material movements with corresponding transactions in the Epicor ERP system
  • Safely operating warehouse equipment including forklifts, overhead cranes, and woodshop tools
  • Participating in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize warehouse operations

Other responsibilities include:

  • Use the Epicor ERP material queue to prioritize daily picking and packing tasks and ensure the on-time shipment of Sales Orders
  • Pick and pack components efficiently, identifying opportunities to improve speed and quality through better tools, equipment, layout, and standardized practices
  • Build pallets, crates, boxes, and other required packaging as per Kadant procedures to ensure the safe, high-quality delivery of goods
  • Develop a working knowledge of Kadant parts, including fasteners and machined components, to understand their handling and packing requirements
  • Use scanners to accurately track and move parts in the ERP system and maintain correct inventory locations
  • Load and unload trucks using forklifts and overhead cranes
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors, reporting current or potential issues promptly along with suggested solutions
  • Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor at all times

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a Picker/Packer, in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of manufactured mechanical parts, with the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and part specifications to ensure accurate picking, packing, and staging of components
  • Mastery with tools and equipment (table/vertical saws, nail/staple guns) to build crates & pallets.
  • Ability to drive forklift trucks (ticketed) and to use overhead & jib cranes
  • Experience in using computers and ERP systems (e.g., Epicor) to process material transactions, verify order details, and maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Have a high attention to detail to ensure all packages contain the correct product and quantity per the customer sales order
  • Be an outstanding team player and communicator. Work well with the KCD team on achieving on time deliveries, take direction from shipping and productions teams on daily priorities, be flexible to frequent customer requests.

Note that this position is a unionized roll and is bound by a collective agreement.
