Purpose

This position serves as a trusted advisor for private wealth services, supporting high net worth clients in achieving their holistic wealth management and investment growth goals through a disciplined, firm-wide investment strategy and wealth management process.

The Portfolio Manager develops deep client relationships to understand their life goals, circumstances, and needs, providing integrated investment counseling and life-based wealth advice. They coordinate with Bank and Scotia Wealth Management partners to deliver on wealth strategies and lead a team of experts to fulfill our wealth promise and enhance client experience.

The role focuses on acquiring new clients, managing and deepening relationships with existing high-value clients, and identifying prospects in specific markets through strategic development and maintaining a sales pipeline for sustainable growth.

The Portfolio Manager ensures effective operations aligned with Scotiabank’s values, code of conduct, and global sales principles, maintaining robust controls to meet operational, compliance, AML/ATF, and conduct risk obligations.

Accountabilities
  • Client Relationship Management: Deliver exceptional service, develop profitable relationships, ensure proactive contact, conduct ongoing wealth conversations, identify new business opportunities, and collaborate across teams to meet client needs.
  • Investment Management: Use KYC and IPQ to understand client needs, recommend appropriate asset allocations, and monitor portfolios regularly.
  • Business Development: Develop business plans, attract and retain clients, analyze market opportunities, execute marketing strategies, and build a network of prospects and referrals.
  • Risk Management/Compliance: Ensure adherence to all regulatory and internal policies, maintain client portfolios within strategy, and escalate suspicious activities.
  • Team Membership: Contribute to team effectiveness, foster a positive environment, share knowledge, mentor colleagues, and promote a respectful, inclusive workplace.
Education / Experience
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Economics, Accounting, or Finance.
  • Minimum 5 years in discretionary investment management, with expertise in financial analysis and portfolio management.
  • Certifications such as CSC & CIM (maintained in good standing), with CFA, CFP, or LLQP considered assets.
  • Regulatory registration with securities commissions.
  • Strong relationship management, business development, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Results-oriented, self-motivated, with integrity and disciplined execution.
