Job summary

Averro is seeking a Senior PIC Optical Engineer for an optical components manufacturer. The role focuses on photonic integrated circuits design, simulation and validation, with responsibilities spanning from device design to test plan execution.

You will work on AWGs, coherent detectors, and silicon photonics projects within a collaborative team. Ideal candidates hold a PhD or MSc with substantial industry experience in integrated photonics, and are proficient with RSoft, Lumerical and Python,

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optics or Photonics, or MSc with 4+ years of industrial integrated photonics experience
• Hands-on experience with photonics simulation suites (RSoft, Lumerical), guided-wave optics, inverse design and Python scripting
• Optical test experience (tunable lasers, spectrum analyzers, PDL) and strong technical writing skills

Responsibilities

• Simulate and optimize photonic integrated circuits (AWGs, optical hybrids, coherent detection chips) using RSoft, Lumerical and Python
• Validate models against measured data; link chip performance to fabrication variables
• Design devices and test structures from simulation through GDS mask layout
• Define test plans and guide technicians
• Support silicon photonics and silicon nitride work; present results to stakeholders

Role & Responsibilities We are seeking a Senior PIC Optical Engineer for an optical components manufacturer, which would be a great opportunity for someone with experience in photonic simulation and device design looking to further their career in integrated photonics.

• Simulate and optimize photonic integrated circuits (AWGs, optical hybrids, coherent detection chips) using RSoft, Lumerical and Python
• Validate models against measured data; link chip performance to fabrication variables
• Design devices and test structures from simulation through GDS mask layout
• Define test plans and guide technicians
• Support silicon photonics and silicon nitride work; present results to stakeholders

Essential Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optics or Photonics, or M.Sc. with 4+ years of industrial integrated photonics experience
• Hands-on experience with photonics simulation suites (RSoft, Lumerical), guided-wave optics, inverse design and Python scripting
• Optical test experience (tunable lasers, spectrum analyzers, PDL) and strong technical writing skills

Bonus Qualifications

• AWG design or silica-on-silicon PLC background
• Scripted GDS mask layout (KLayout, gdstk); open-source solvers (Meep, Tidy3D)
• Git and Linux; publications or patents in integrated optics
