Piano Teachers
We’ve spent every day of our 30+ year history learning how to deliver the perfect piano experience. We’ve worked with university deans, researchers, famed pedagogists, international performers, and over 50,000 students to understand the critical inflection points along the journey to learn the piano.
And amongst all the study, the curriculum, the technology, and close to half a million performances, the importance of our piano teachers remains unmatched by any other factor.
At Merriam, becoming a piano teacher isn’t a job. It’s a career. With earning potential to truly build a life with us, and our continually expanded and elevated offerings, our teaching experience is truly unlike any other school in Canada.
You’ll work with a professional administrative team to ensure that schedules are well planned, students are well-matched, tools and training are there when you need them, and that above all, your work as an educator is recognized by all stakeholders.
As you gain experience, training, and skills, you’ll have the opportunity to advance within the school and play increasingly important roles in helping to shape students’ lives and the future of the school.
Teaching piano at Merriam School of Music can be one of the best decisions you make to further your music career as a piano teacher, music educator & performer. Teaching piano doesn’t need to be part-time, temporary, or unfulfilling. In fact, it’s entirely the opposite, and to learn more, we hope that you’ll apply to join our team.
We’re seeking out two very unique and valuable types of musicians for our school. Firstly, our school is built upon the long-term commitment of our teaching staff. Many of our core teachers have been with the school for over a decade, and our most engaged and successful teachers consider this a professional home and a place to foster their careers.
But additionally, we are also seeking professional performers with active music-industry careers who find satisfaction in sharing their knowledge and enhancing their income in a flexible, credible way. These artists act as adjudicators, guest lecturers, course contributors, remote coaches for elite students, and content contributors.
Our piano teachers hail from throughout the GTA, including Etobicoke, Markham, Richmond Hill, North York, Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga, Toronto, Vaughan, Brampton, Scarborough, and more.
Regardless of what job type you apply for, the age group of the students, your past job titles, or whether you have a bachelor’s degree or doctorate, we value musicianship (not necessarily virtuosity) and a genuine connection with educating above all else. Post-secondary education is required, except where recognized success in the music industry provides a similar depth of knowledge.
Merriam Music is an equal opportunity employer that has a long track record of fostering growth for its employees, sculpting job opportunities that build upon each individual’s strengths. While other businesses may claim a similar culture, few can boast that their entire first and second management levels are made up of 10+ year employees.
Our workplace is supportive, with open-door policies with all direct managers and support for all employees when and where needed. Whether that be mentoring and coaching so that you can achieve maximum job success, or being responsive to personal needs and challenges, our employees are the strength of our business, and we treat you as such.
And finally, you’ll be heard. Ideas are welcomed and encouraged, and the best ideas are adopted regardless of who and where they come from. We all succeed when everyone is supported fairly and genuinely – and you’ll feel it from day one.
