Pay Range

Commensurate with experience

A Physiotherapy Assistant / Occupational Therapy assistant at VHA Home HealthCare will provide client-centered clinical care under the direction and supervision of a Physiotherapist / Occupational Therapist. You will be conducting home visits for the clients of VHA as per the Physiotherapist's / Occupational therapist's recommendations.

Areas of accountability :

VHA's Physiotherapy Assistants / Occupational Therapy Assistants have the following key areas of accountability, but not limited to :

  • Assist / supervise the client with his / her individual prescribed exercise programs or ADL training
  • Assist / supervise client with walking, transfers, stairs, safe mobility, and positioning using proper body mechanics
  • Provide client / family education and support to address physical, functional, and self-care needs as assigned
  • Assist with gross motor, fine motor, and balance activities
  • Monitor and report changes in health status to the Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist
  • Participate in program planning, quality improvement, and evaluation
  • Document in the client record and collect required data as requested

Required Qualifications :

  • Diploma as an OTA / PTA from an accredited college program.
  • You have a minimum of 2 years relevant work experience, preferably in the community working with geriatric clients with variable diagnoses and multiple co-morbidities.
  • You are a skilled communicator and have a successful track record of coaching / mentoring clients to participate in a professional manner.
  • Current First Aid Certificate and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate required.
  • Evidence of continuous education.
  • Sound critical thinking, good judgment, and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated understanding and practice of rehabilitation principles and techniques.
