Your Role:
As a key role in NBS’ Artistic Health Department, NBS’Physiotherapist works with other members of the Artistic Health team as well as Artistic Faculty to support health and maximize the potential of our full-time students. Reporting to the Director, Research & Health, NBS’ Physiotherapist will assess and treat dancers according to their scope of practice. The physiotherapist will also help to maximize dancers’ potential by working within and across departments to support dancers’ complementary training and wellbeing.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Use evidence-informed physiotherapy principles and practices to provide assessment, treatment, and performance optimization guidance for NBS’ Professional Ballet Program (PBP) students, Teacher Training Program students, and Artistic Faculty (as needed
• Communicate relevant assessment and treatment information to appropriate parties to facilitate students’ recovery periods and injury prevention routines; such parties may include members of NBS’ Artistic Health Department, Artistic Faculty (i.e., Artistic Director, dance teachers), parents, consultant doctors, residence staff; communication occurs only after student consent to such, in accordance with privacy policies
• Organize physio-appointments so that persons are seen in a fair and timely manner
• In conjunction with the department coordinator and other members of NBS’ Artistic Health Department, refer students to external health disciplines when the nature of concern goes beyond area of expertise (e.g., sport physician, surgeon, etc.), and communicate results/reports with the student, Artistic Director, Artistic Health Department, and parents (when appropriate as per privacy policy)
• Assist in the instruction of anatomy or other related topics in classes as needed
• Provide services to dancers during NBS performances, including acute, emergency care in the event of physical injury
• Attend department meetings as scheduled and additional meetings as required
• Screen PBP students annually to help the Artistic Faculty identify individual and group training priorities
• Report any privacy concerns to NBS’ Nurse Practitioner (NBS’ Health Information Custodian)
• All other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications:

• Masters of Science in Physiotherapy and a license to practice with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
• Excellent outpatient clinical experience (in particular working with dancers/elite athletes and youth)
• Good understanding of PHIPA legislation
• Experience providing dancers' manual therapy
• Great communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with youth, parents, and staff
• Ability to handle information confidentially and with discretion
• Excellent organization and time management skills
• Good collaboration skills; ability to effectively work within a team
• Excellent assessment and judgment skills
• Experience working with youth is considered an asset

Successful candidates must supply Canada’s National Ballet School with a Police Reference Check in accordance with the School’s Child Abuse/Sexual Abuse Prevention Policy; this will be coordinated through the Human Resources Department at NBS.
