Under the general direction of the Program Manager, the Physiotherapy Assistant/Occupational Therapy Assistant (PTA/OTA) is responsible for providing person-centered care for patients/clients under the supervision of a regulated health professional. The role involves supporting service delivery and participating in interprofessional activities to foster a person-centered environment and enhance operational efficiency.


The PTA/OTA may work autonomously in various settings, including the community, following treatment plans developed by supervising clinicians. Knowledge of the scope of practice and standards of physiotherapy and occupational therapy is essential.


Skills and Qualifications Required
  • Dual Physiotherapy Assistant/Occupational Therapy Assistant certification from a recognized program
  • At least six months of experience in each of OT and PT settings (preferred)
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s license (may be required)
Position Responsibilities
  • Implement assigned treatment plans independently, using skilled techniques as appropriate
  • Collaborate with clinicians on activities within the treatment plan
  • Discuss patient needs and suggest problem-solving solutions
  • Instruct patients on the safe use of assistive devices and aids, and assist in fabricating equipment as needed
  • Provide exercise programs as directed by supervising clinicians
  • Monitor and report patient responses to treatment, suggesting modifications as necessary
