Under the general direction of the Program Manager, the Physiotherapy Assistant/Occupational Therapy Assistant (PTA/OTA) is responsible for providing person-centered care for patients/clients under the supervision of a regulated health professional. The role involves supporting service delivery and participating in interprofessional activities aimed at a person-centered environment and operational efficiency.

The PTA/OTA may work autonomously in various settings, including the community, following treatment plans developed by supervising clinicians. A thorough understanding of the scope of practice and standards of physiotherapy and occupational therapy is essential.

Skills and Qualifications Required
  • Dual Physiotherapy Assistant/Occupational Therapy Assistant certification from a recognized program
  • At least six months of experience in each of OT and PT settings preferred
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s license may be required
Position Responsibilities
  • Independently follow assigned treatment plans, including skilled techniques as appropriate
  • Collaborate with clinicians on activities within treatment guidelines
  • Discuss patient/client needs and suggest problem-solving solutions
  • Fit and instruct on the safe use of assistive devices and aids, and assist with adaptations and fabrication of treatment aids
  • Provide exercise programs as directed by the supervising clinician
  • Monitor and report patient responses, suggesting changes to treatment plans as needed
