Through the Health Care Provider Contract, Calian employs health care professionals across Canada who are integral to supporting the health and wellbeing of our military members.

Position Overview

Calian is excited to announce an opportunity for a Physician - Flight Surgeon to join our dedicated clinical team at CFB Petawawa. This role is ideal for a passionate physician who thrives in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment and is looking to make a real difference in the lives of Canada’s Armed Forces members.

Physician – Flight Surgeons work both independently and as part of a health care team, providing medical care and advice in primary care settings. Each Flight Surgeon is usually assigned a group of patients and is responsible for managing their care. Patients can see them through scheduled appointments, walk-ins, or when medically needed. At times, Flight Surgeons may also need to work evenings, weekends, or be on-call.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, treat, and monitor aircrew health issues; conduct aircrew and specialized medical exams (e.g., periodic health assessments) in line with official medical standards and timelines.
  • Review and assign flight or dive restrictions; investigate and report on medical incidents involving aircrew or divers, including contributing to accident investigations (but not attending crash sites).
  • Train Health Services staff in crash response; educate aircrew on aeromedical topics, hazards (e.g., CBRNE, LASER), and safety procedures; support Aerospace Medical Training.
  • Build rapport with aircrew, stay informed about air operations, and work with Preventive Medicine and Safety Systems staff on occupational health and equipment matters.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge in aerospace and environmental medicine and carry out other tasks as assigned by senior medical officers.

  • Licensed and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
  • Certification in Family Medicine with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP)
  • Basic Life Support for Health Providers or CPR/AED Level C
  • Completion of Canadian Forces Operational Flight Surgeon course
Additional Requirements
  • You will be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level
