BC Children's Hospital (BCCH) provides care for the most acutely ill and injured children in the province and offers developmental and rehabilitation services. It is a leading acute care teaching facility engaged in research through the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute and in partnership with UBC. BCCH is part of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), which manages specialty healthcare services across BC.
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a 28-bed, state-of-the-art unit within the Teck Acute Care Centre, handling over 1200 admissions annually. As a critical care team member, your primary responsibility will be direct clinical care of critically ill children, supporting their families, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. You will provide advanced support including ECMO and support for conditions such as congenital heart disease and organ transplants.
Additional duties include providing outreach critical care advice within the Emergency Department and inpatient wards, assisting with inter-hospital transfers, and coordinating transport logistics—experience in transport medicine is essential.
The successful candidate will promote teamwork, mentorship, and a respectful workplace. Requirements include a medical degree from an LCME-accredited school, current BC licensure, at least six months of PICU experience, and experience in transport medicine. Subspecialty training in Pediatric Critical Care, Anesthesia, or Emergency Medicine is an asset.
